Inlays & Onlays
Rebuild a worn or cracked tooth that's too damaged for a filling but doesn't need a full crown, with a custom tooth-coloured piece made in our own Australian lab.
Is any of this you?
- You cracked a tooth, not lost it.
- You keep losing the same filling.
- You do not want a full crown.
- You want to keep your own tooth.
None of this fixes itself.

How inlays & onlays work
Four steps. No surprises.
- Step 1 Check the tooth
We look at the tooth and your bite, take an x-ray if needed, and explain honestly whether a filling, an inlay or onlay, or a crown fits best.
- Step 2 Prepare and scan
We gently clean out the damage, keeping as much healthy tooth as we can, then take a digital scan of the tooth.
- Step 3 Made in our lab
Our own Australian lab in Southport builds your inlay or onlay to fit exactly and match the colour of your other teeth.
- Step 4 Bonded and checked
We bond it firmly in place, check your bite feels right, and fine-tune it so the tooth feels like your own again.
What our patients say
Her first suggestion: “I’d prefer to try and save the tooth rather than pull it if you would be open to it?”
Kyle was the first dentist who took me seriously.
I am a confirmed dentist phobe and can I say, this is the best experience I have had.
Thank you so much for making my experience relaxed fun and more importantly affordable.
Individual results vary.

Inlay & onlay questions
Do I need an inlay, onlay or a crown?
It comes down to how much healthy tooth is left. If the damage is too big for a filling but the tooth is mostly sound, an inlay or onlay rebuilds it while keeping more of your own tooth. A badly broken tooth usually needs a full crown. We will tell you honestly which suits yours at your visit.
What is the difference between an inlay and an onlay?
It is about how much they cover. An inlay sits neatly inside the tooth, within the cusps. An onlay also covers over one or more worn or weak cusps to protect them. We choose whichever matches the damage on your tooth.
Will it match my other teeth?
That is the goal. Your inlay or onlay is tooth-coloured, metal-free and shade-matched in our own Australian lab next to a model of your real tooth, so it blends in and there is no grey showing at the edge.
How long do they last?
With good cleaning and regular check-ups, inlays and onlays can last many years. They are bonded firmly and made from strong materials. Looking after the tooth and gum around them is the main thing, and we will show you how. Results vary from person to person.
Is it more involved than a filling?
A little. Because the piece is custom made to fit exactly, it usually takes a digital scan and a fitting visit, and you may wear a temporary in between. The trade-off is a stronger, better-fitting result that protects more of your own tooth.
