What to do right now
Can I be seen today?
We aim to see urgent cases the same day. The fastest way to sort it is to call us on 1800 833 844 so we can find you the soonest spot across our clinics.
What should I do about severe toothache?
Call us rather than waiting for it to settle. Avoid chewing on the sore tooth and use a cold compress wrapped in cloth against the outside of your face if there is swelling. A dentist needs to find and treat the cause, even if the pain eases for a while.
Read the toothache guideDo you have after-hours care?
We offer after-hours access for urgent problems. Call 1800 833 844 and follow the prompts, and we'll guide you on what to do next.
My adult tooth got knocked out. What do I do now?
Pick it up by the crown, not the root. If it is dirty, rinse it gently without scrubbing. If you can, put the adult tooth back in its socket; otherwise keep it in milk or saliva so it does not dry out. Call us immediately on 1800 833 844. Do not put a knocked-out baby tooth back in.
Read the knocked-out tooth guideWhen should I call 000 or go to hospital?
Call triple zero (000) or go straight to an emergency department if you have trouble breathing, talking or swallowing, a very swollen mouth or tongue, or a lot of blood going down your throat. These symptoms need urgent medical care, not a routine dental appointment.
What should I do about facial swelling or a dental abscess?
Call us urgently. A dental abscess will not get better on its own and may cause throbbing pain, swelling, fever or a bad taste. If swelling affects your breathing, talking or swallowing, call 000 or go to an emergency department.
Read the swollen gum guideWhat should I do if a tooth has chipped or broken?
Call us for an urgent appointment. If you can find the broken piece, keep it in milk or sterile saline and bring it with you. Use a cold compress wrapped in cloth against the outside of your face if there is swelling.
Read the broken tooth guideWhat if a filling or crown has fallen out?
Keep the filling or crown if you have it, avoid chewing on that side, and call us. Do not use household glue. We will check why it came loose and tell you whether it can be replaced or the tooth needs another repair.
What can I do for bleeding before I am seen?
Apply firm pressure with clean gauze or a clean cloth. If bleeding is heavy, will not settle, or blood is going down your throat, seek urgent medical care. Call 000 if breathing, talking or swallowing is affected.
Will the assessment cost me?
Call us on 1800 833 844 and we'll explain any costs up front before you come in, so there are no surprises while you're in pain.
